Creating The Motivation To Workout
Getting motivated to work out starts with the right mindset. It is not unusual to have certain days when you cannot find the enthusiasm to wear even your favorite workout gear to sweat it out.
5 tips to get you motivated to work out and start you off on the right track:
1. Set realistic fitness goals and write them down
Take the time to think what you want to achieve by working out. Set up a fitness goal that you can expect to achieve. Losing 20 lbs in a month is not really a reasonable and healthy goal and it may just frustrate you in the end if you are not able to achieve it. If you do not know yet what a reasonable fitness goal is with respect to your body type, do check out some online health articles or consult a gym trainer.
Make sure to incorporate a target deadline in your goal to introduce a sense of urgency in the process.
Once you have identified these goals, be sure to write them down and display them where you can see them when you wake up in the morning. A picture of yourself at an ideal weight is also a powerful visualization technique. This positive image gives you that extra push to remain focus throughout the day.
2. Be accountable
Getting motivated to work out is not that easy if there is no one expecting you to do it. By connecting to a workout buddy that has similar goals as you, you are compelled to do your best and to indirectly help someone achieve his or her own fitness goals. The social side of working out is a very effective motivator especially if you have a people pleasing personality.
3. Prepare for your workout day
You are less likely to skip a workout if you have your gym bag within easy reach either in the morning or after office hours. The point is, make it easy for you to do your workout routine by preparing what you need in advance.
4. Identify your workout time
Learn to listen to yourself and recognize the best time when you are most motivated to work out. Are you more energetic to dance in the morning? Is lifting weights relieves you from stress after a hectic day at work. Find your rhythm and stick to it.
5. Monitor your progress
By looking at a visual representation on how well you are doing with respect to your target goals, your mind and body are synchronizing harmoniously to keep you on track. Monitor your progress, but do not obsess too much about it. A weekly or monthly monitoring is enough to convince you that moving your butt off that couch is getting you somewhere.
Achieving a healthy body does require focus and commitment. By controlling your subconscious mind and telling it that a consistent workout will make you look good and happier, it would not take that long for your body to follow what you will it to do.
